Proposed Space Mission: Bijayan Cosmos
Bijayan Cosmos will be a nano-spacecraft sent to low earth orbit by 2030. Bijayan Cosmos will capture space dust / cometary dust falling onto Earth before it reaches the Earth’s atmosphere (from above Kármán line). The captured samples will be tested for presence of microbial life.
Bijayan comes from two Sanskrit words, bij, seed + ayan, journey; it is the journey of the seed. Bijayan Comsos Mission’s primary objective is to test the panspermia hypothesis.
Note – Bijayan Cosmos was proposed in 2019.
Concept Space Mission: Bijayan Venus
Bijayan Venus will be a nano-spacecraft sent to Venus by 2030. Bijayan Venus will inject an assortment of microorganisms (non-pathogenic, primarily extremophiles) in the Venusian atmosphere with the primary aim of initiating terraforming of Venus.
Bijayan comes from two Sanskrit words, bij, seed + ayan, journey; it is the journey of the seed. Bijayan Venus Mission is primarily a demonstration of intent.
Note – Bijayan Venus was proposed as a concept mission in 2017.
